Some days back I bumped into a very good website. The site is an official website of “Savarkar Smarak”.
Now before you guys ask me who Savarkar is? (Its anyways a shame if you don’t know Vinayak Damodar Savarkar) I am really amazed to observe how Indian Government easily forgets this man. He’s also one of the most ignored Freedom Fighter. For those who don’t know V. D. Savarkar, here’s a brief introduction:
Vinayak Damodar Savarkar was one of the freedom fighters of India. He’s best known as Swatantryaveer Savarkar. After getting inspired by his brother, he also joined the bandwagon of freedom fights. He was not just a freedom fighter but a poet, scientist, writer, thinker, a great swimmer and a Pure Patriot. His *Ne Majasi Ne* and *Jayostute* are pieces of genius. Savarkar was sentenced to 50 years imprisonment and transported on July 4, 1911 to the infamous Cellular Jail in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Apart from a fantastic poet, he was imminent writer too. I have read his books, one of the recent reads was “The Indian War of Independence in 1857” and let me confess, thats an awesome book which provides us with an insight as to what exactly happened in 1857. Also his book about his punishment in Andaman and Nicobar is also famous.
Another interesting fact about him is, while being carried in a ship, he tried to escape by jumping through the toilet hole of a ship and swam for he only knows how many days to not get caught again. But after so much of hard work and to our ill fate, he still got caught. But I salute to the man’s attempt and daring to swim the entire ocean. I doubt if any of the politician today can do that for India.
Coming back to the motive of writing this blog post is to introduce you all to a very beautiful site. Thats
This site contains almost all the books ever written by Veer Savarkar. This site contains both Marathi and English versions of books. Also this contains some of the very rare letters and articles of Ancient and Pre-Freedom India. I would recommend everyone on this planet (Whether Marathi, Hindi or English speaking, doesn’t matter) to visit this site and read his literature to understand him. I have already downloaded all the books from the site and now enjoying reading them.
