To Vijay Mallya with Urge…

Dear Mr. Vijay Mallya,Vijay_Mallya

I recently overheard your fight with MS Gill, Sports Minister  of India about bringing Formula One (F1) to India. You both had heated arguments on introduction of this sports to India.

I agree, as an Indian I too felt great about the success Force India got in Belgian Grand Prix. But to be frank there is only your money and Indian Tri-colour which is Indian in recent victory. What else was Indian in there? The driver Giancarlo Fisichella is Italian, the company with which Force India is having tie-up, Mercedes Benz is German and with all the technicians from don’t know what backgrounds aren’t even distantly Indian. So what was Indian in it to celebrate so joyously?

Giancarlo Fisichella

Force India

I heard you want to bring Formula One in India as sports, well is it feasible and practical? Is F1 a fit and healthy sports for India? Though almost around half of the people from India may have been watching F1, but bringing F1 to their doorsteps is pretty difficult and uncalled for, for following reasons:

a) It requires almost hundreds of billion dollars to complete a single rotation of the track.

b) It requires custom made roads or tracks which also cost hundreds of billion dollars. How can you think of building such tracks when almost all of India is running on potholes and patched roads. For the cost of building one such track almost all of Indian roads can get well dressed.

c) India don’t have that ability, expertise and technology that is required for Formula One. Adding to that Indian attitude is also not at par for Formula One.

d) Instead of investing so much on one single sport, try and invest in providing good facilities to boxing, swimming, rifle shooting. There are other sports too (other than Cricket) which need financial boost. Give that boost and let them win gold medals for India.

You are a businessman and will always look for that special something for yourself. You will always look for profit in every bit of work you do or think. I don’t know what and how much profit you have earned by bringing Tipu Sultan’s rocket launcher and Mahatma Gandhi’s South African house to India. Surely you may have got the lot of goodwill from people of India or rather the world. Also Indian people’s goodwill will always be with you as you provide them with liquor. But surely Indian people won’t want Formula One to come to India with them not getting what they need.

If you really want to bring something to India, bring:

1) prosperity,

2) enough food, shelter and clothing,

3) employment,

4) corruption free India,

5) development,

but NO FORMULA ONE.

Day of great upsets at US Open 2009…

Well! Well! Well!

Did you ever imagine that almost all the top seeds will get ousted in 3rd round only? Well, if not then your guess or rather imagination turned false just yesterday. Almost all the top seeded players excepting some have been kicked out of the US Open 2009. There were more upsets this day but three of them arrested my attention. The detail of those upsets (upsets for top seeds) and a breakthrough for the players who just turned pro is given below.

The first of such match which attracted my attention was between Melanie Oudin and Maria Sharapova. Melanie really deserved the win she earned with great fight. For such a girl (yes, she is girl born in 1991) who turned pro in 2008 upsetting Maria Sharapova who ruled Women Tennis for so long is really an achievement. When Oudin won the match finally some tears gathered in my eyes too. I too felt good for her and expected if such a new kid on the floor can upset Sharapova and that too in such deep in the tournament in round 3 why can’t Sania who has been on this stage for some years now beat someone and enter in quarters or semis? The stats of the match between Sharapova and Oudin are as follows:

Melanie Oudin

        Maria Sharapova

Rank: 70 Rank: 29
Melanie Oudin Maria Sharapova
3 6
6 4
7 5

Second match which was attention seeking was between two American’s, Andy Roddick and John Isner. John Isner was a bit offensive sometimes in expressing his anger or expression and on the other side of the court Roddick was calm as he has always been. But John Isner deserved the victory after such a hard work and a five setter. Maintaining the anxiety of a 5 setter and then of tie breaker was too much for a person who turner pro in 2007. But he played well and used his height (6 ft 9 inches) to much extent in serving the great serves. The stats of the match are as follows:

John Isner

Andy Roddick

Rank: 55 Rank: 5
John Isner Andy Roddick
7 (7) 6 (3)
6 3
3 6
5 7
7 (7) 6 (5)

And the third eye-catcher of the day was Dinara Safina getting ousted by Petra Kvitova. The number 1 seed Dinara Safina was beaten by 72nd seed Petra Kvitova. It was quite easy win for Kvitova as compared to the win if Safina would have been energetic. Safina seemed struggling to reach the ball and bit lethargic too. She seemed stiff as compared to her early days of US Open 2009 and she had to pay the price. The Czech Republic girl (Yea, same, she is a girl even if she doesn’t seem to be, born in 1990) who turned pro in 2006 seemed more energetic that Safina though not so intellectual in her play. Kvitova should give some credit to Safina for winning the match against her. Even then the match was eye catching because it was number 1 seed getting ousted and result matters. What’s ultimate thing is Kvitova ousted number 1 Safina. The stats are as follows:

Petra Kvitova

Dinara Safina

Rank: 72 Rank: 1
Petra Kvitova Dinara Safina
6 4
2 6
7 (7) 6 (5)

I have specifically written these games in an order in which they appealed to me. The best and enthralling game was of John Isner and Melanie Oudin. I felt bad for Safina because she didn’t seem to be in her best shape. But dear oh dear, the day was rocking at US Open 2009.

Indian Relative(s)…

Relatives!

In India if you ask anyone what these relatives are, you will get some grim faces in front of your eyes. Well all over the world there are relatives. Whether that is in US or UK or other part of the World. But those relatives will not be so intimidating or irritating as compared to Indian counterparts. Well you will ask me why Indian relatives are so? I mean you will be thinking why I am calling Indian relatives so irritating? But don’t worry, I am explaining the issue a bit.

In US and UK relatives (so called) because in US, UK and Other World excluding Asian countries there are no relatives as such. Because relatives in rest of the world they don’t poke their noses in your personal matters. But that is not so with Indian Relatives. Indian relatives will try as much to poke their noses in your matters as they can. And will make your life miserable. Now consider following examples and you will get a clear idea of what I am saying.

Consider a guy who has got selected in a MNC after he passed his MBA degree. But the order for joining is not coming since some months now, almost 4 months. Considering the market situation he knows that there are no finance profiles available and there are other factors also for not going for some other job for the time being. The guy is well versed with the conditions and that’s why he is sitting idle since 3 months. Now 3 months of idleness is not much if you ask me. But these relatives will irritate you by asking you when is the joining (almost) daily.

Now the other part of asking such questions is giving you some dose about what to do and what not to do. But that’s the thing I am talking about. They will not just make you drink their doses but will irritate you in some other ways too. They will at first ask you to join some other job for time being. Now if you go for the job and the offer you had already gets out of your hand, they will say,“why the hell did you leave the job which was so better than this job?”. On the other hand if you don’t go for the job they will say,“why the hell are you not trying for something else? For how much time you are going to sit idle?” as if the guy’s age gonna bar.

This relative is so shitty business in India. That’s why I follow a simple rule by Swami Vivekananda that “If you know by your inner mind and being true to your own that what you are doing is right and will bring some good to you, then hell with what others think about your doings. You follow your own inner voice.” The benefit of following your own inner voice is that you alone are responsible for what consequences you face. And nobody can say anything or you can not blame anybody else. And a drawback in following other’s advice is, if you loose something you can’t blame those people for they will say who asked you to follow our advice. So you better listen to your own inner voices.

Relatives are called relatives because their opinions are “relative” to the situations and generally exactly opposite to what you do or think. And I guess all people in India will agree to what I am saying.

Sania Mirza – A burst bubble in Indian Tennis…

Sania Mirza!

A teen tennis sensation in India!Sania Mirza

A star in Indian Tennis!

These were some of the statements that wowed every Indian Tennis lover. Rather it would not be an exaggeration if I say a lot of people started watching tennis just because of Sania Mirza, at least in India. Sania made her international debut in 2005. The debut was an ideal start for any debutant. Lasting till fourth round in US Open was something amazing from a debutant.

But that’s it. Since then Sania has not been able to match her debut US Open charm for lasting till 4th round. There has been no consistent performance from her since then. She came in every title tournament and lasted till maximum of 2nd round unlike other players of similar age and gender who debuted later than Sania.

Isn’t it a shame not to match the debut performance? Generally people flounder in their debut performances but over the upcoming matches make themselves tough and try to overshadow the previous best performance. Why is this not with Sania Mirza? Look at Maria Sharapova, she is as young as Sania with almost same birth years. But she flourished very well and maintained her position in top 35 since last so many years. Maria was number 1 seeded for so many days or rather months. That’s commitment and class. Consider other players like

1) Melanie Oudin

2) Yaroslava Shvedova

3) Vania King

4) Sara Errani

5) Aleksandra Wozniak

6) Kirsten Flipkens.

These girls have managed to upset top seeded players like

1) Elena Dementieva (04)

2) Jelena Jankovic (05)

3) Samantha Stosur (15)

4) Amelie Mauresmo (17)

5) Patty Schnyder (19)

6) Anabela Madina Garriques (20)

in US Open 2009 in 1st and 2nd round. Even though their consistency has not been proved but still we can clearly make out from their current playing standards that they will show certain consistency.

Consider Roger Federer. Look how committed he is to the game and how he gives more than 100% to every game he plays. Though he has no one to prove to but he plays like he wants to prove him again and again. Forget about Roger Federer, Sania Mirza will have to take birth again to match his abilities and class. But lets match Sania with Saina Nehwal. Just a shift of “I” in the names and see the big difference.

Since Saina has made debut in Badminton world she has rocked everything. Continuously rising in her ranking and performance quality, she seems to be the real sensation. Look how committed Saina is to the game and her practice. As compared to Saina, Sania seems to have lost the charm. Though Saina is pretty new and Sania is almost 4 years old in International scene, Saina looks more convincing than Sania.

But then what is the reason for such a fall for Sania?

The answer can be mixture of various facts and things like

1) Entrance in Commercial ad world

2) Excessive fame and hype

3) Miserable physical fitness with almost every year bringing one or other ailing conditions

With commercial ads coming her way pretty easily and paying her much higher than what a match could may have taken its toll. When one gets fame through TV medium (s)he gets carried away. There are various examples that players fall more into such traps than anybody else. Roger Federer also shoots for some ads but those are limited. Rolex and that’s it.

Sania has been a victim of excessive fame and hype. Since she has started to play everybody has been diehard fan of her. Becoming fan is not a bad thing, but you are not supposed to make player’s life miserable. And a player is also not supposed to fill his/her head with air and consider himself/herself the best one. And that’s what happened with Sania. Its my deep heart wish that Sania recovers from her ailing body, her bad patch and plays some real good tennis taking her ranking to good height.

Also Sania has been victim of her unfit body. Every now and then she falls for some illness and body pain. She should really concentrate on fitness and improvising her game. It is high time that Sania concentrates more on game than anything else and makes it a point through her performance and winning percentage.

Amidst all this, Sania is getting married now to Sohrab Mirza. I hope that the marriage don’t make this bad patch more persistent and miserable. The expression we see in the picture above have become rare. The only expression we see these days on her face while in the game is of disappointment. Sania has become a “burst bubble in Indian Tennis World” and she should try and eradicate the image now she has on people’s minds.

All the best Sania and congrats on your engagement.

Lunatic Space Missions…

Recently the Chandrayaan mission failed due to some reason. But that failed mission opened some more windows in my brain. And through those windows came flying the thoughts, “whether these missions mean anything? What good they are gonna bring to us? Are all things like food, shelter and clothing achieved in India?”. Such and more compelling thoughts came in my mind.

Seriously, what Mission Chandrayaan will bring for us? The geological sample, some high definition photographs and a big hole to the National Budget. Except this what else are we going to achieve from it? Or are these missions some sort of status symbols, that Russia, America and other nations have sent their shuttles to Moon, Mars and where not and we are the only ones remaining? No doubt such science expeditions are important and necessary, but not at the cost of basic necessities. Russia and US have achieved what they could have achieved while going for such missions. They never ignored or sidelined the basic necessities of their countrymen. They have very sophisticated and advanced infrastructure, basic needs fulfilled. Thus their missions are justified.

But look at us. We don’t have basic needs fulfilled. We don’t have all men having food, shelter and clothing. Literacy rate is well known to everybody, basic infrastructure is not visible, not even distant. We spend less on Research and Development as compared to other developed nations. I agree that India is still a developing country, but for how long are we going to sing the same old song? We have been free from British since 62 years and what development we have achieved is nothing.

I know some of you will say we are the IT hub of the whole world, but what about those people who are living in rural India? What good are they getting from IT developments? They still have to pay Rs. 90 for one kilo of Cereals. They still have to face the scarcity issue, they still have to depend on unemployment salary.

I really don’t know what good are we gonna achieve by scouring Lunar land? Even if we find out all the elemental details of the land on moon, is it possible to have habitat there in near future? By near future I mean, the habitat is not possible for another 300 years. Even if the development is going to be achieved at astounding rate, how many from our world will be able to purchase a habitat there either on Moon or on Mars? Adding to this, Moon is having half of the gravitational power as compared to the Earth. Mars is not at all suitable for human habitat. Moreover none of the both have environment which humans need for survival. Then why to go for that?

Is this our immediate necessity? Lets not think of what US and Russia are doing for they have their stomachs full and are having nothing to loose. They have their pockets filled with hefty amounts and time which is not passing by. That’s why they seek such adventures. But such adventures are not our cup of tea. Our people are still dying to have at least one meal a day, forget about a cosy life.

I agree and will always vote for scientific developments, but not at the cost of our people. There are various other venues where we can invest these money and shift our country from “Developing” to “Developed”. Chandrayaan-I cost some Rs. 386 crores and Chandrayaan-II for some Rs. 425 crores. Now tell me can’t we turn India into a developed country with contributions of such hefty amounts? These missions are not the only wastage of money, what Hon. Mayawti ji is doing is also wastage. Our politicians have their accounts in Swiss Bank, get that money and clear all this mess.

Russia at this moment is sitting with a surplus of almost $75 billion. Their revenue is somewhere around $380 billion and their expenditure is $305 billion. And compare this with India and see where are we standing. For year 2007 Russia’s GDP was $1.27 trillion, and where is India’s?

Having said all these things, I am not saying that India should not venture into space missions. India should, but those missions should be for the benefit of common man. I have listed some of such ventures below.

1) Make internet available in rural India and that can be best done with such missions in space. Also make this available in cost effective price to people.

2) Build something that will give some candid and more in depth information about farming and environment to farmers.

3) Mobile service has been cost effective since some years now, but value added services are such that they add nothing in our mobile but subtract everything from balance. So with space missions we can work on this thing.

4) GPS systems which are regular things in foreign states is not even a distant dream in India. Our traffic scene is so horrible that we desperately need GPS system in India. This can to great extent minimize the traffic problems.

5) We have declared to introduce 3G service and Mobile number portability in India, but that’s still on paper. Nothing of both things are actually getting introduced. BSNL has introduced 3G but that will not be cost effective for common man.

6) With these space missions we can take education to a next level. With joining various libraries nationwide to one particular location or website or something like that, so that everybody from rural to urban India can benefit from it.

There are various other ventures which can be undertaken with space missions, but we are not going for that. Rather we are interested in discovering what’s on Moon and Mars.

DRDO which is a dedicated defence organisation for developments and research is doing nothing for developing some concrete solution for Indian Army. They couldn’t develop a bullet proof jacket for military, forget about something more sophisticated. US’s defence budget comprises for 70% of their whole budget. And in that respect where we stand? Might be at the bottom. We can invest this money in developing some good gadgets for Army men so that they can fight more aptly.

Similarly we lack research and development in Corporate India also. Companies in India pay less attention to R&D and more towards milking money. Is this the case with other nations? No! Certainly not, they pay full attention to R&D and their Govt. also supports them well. Thus they are able to develop good things for their public.

Literacy rate in Russia is 99.4% and where are we standing? I have a question for ISRO and other space research organisations in India, can’t we use this money for making education a better thing and joyful and taking our literacy rate to new heights?

There are more such things we can do to make our India a superpower, but only if we all wish and act accordingly. Space missions are good for everybody but not ignoring the basic necessities. Surely not keeping our people and their well being at stake.

“Contradiction”…

Swine Flu.

Swine Flu - Mask

Swine Flu has been making news since almost two months now. After various news flashes all over the world of this disease taking lives, the disease has been declared as “Pandemic” Disease. Born in Mexico and affecting whole of the world through a virus born in swine, has made India its home now.

First death from Swine flu has happened in Pune, and Pune has become more of a birth place than Mexico. Pune and Bangalore being worst hit, Mumbai and other metropolitan cities with some other small cities are also making news with this virus.

But I have spotted some contradictions in its spread. When Swine flu virus first came in India, nobody was prepared for it and that itself was the very big mistake. I met with an Ayurvedic Doctor just after 3-4 days of introduction of Swine Flu in India. I wanted to know the spreading pattern and some indications of Swine Flu. The discussion moved to another level with me asking him, how can we stop this or rather whom this virus will not affect. He replied,"Those who are having good immune system and resistance power will not get affected by this kind of virus or rather any virus. We have so many virus flying in front of our nose daily, but do we get sick everyday?" So there is no need to panic and just follow some rules in day to day life. Use a mask with Camphor or Eucalyptus oil spread in it. Such strong odours keep these viruses away.

I further asked him, how to make our immune system strong and gain more resistance power? He replied “Eat lots of fruits, drink distilled water, wash your hands regularly with soap and avoid going in crowded places” etc etc.

But I sighted a contradiction there. Slum dwellers don’t follow such rules, moreover they don’t get to eat proper food forget about fruits and all healthy diets. On the other hand, apartment dwellers get all those costly fruits and dietary foods. But still Swine flu has NOT affected the slum dwellers but the rich ones. Why is that?

This might be due to the fact that slum dwellers have strong resistance to such mean things plus their immune system is pretty strong as compared to rich people. This point can be proved by following example. If both rich person and slum dweller get drenched in the rain, apartment dweller catches cold quickly but a slum dweller withstands it. So I guess its about immunity and a mental thing too. If you fear of something, you will feel that you have caught that thing. Also the slum dwellers face these flu and cold every now and then, and have to withstand it as medical assistance is rejected because of no money. So by facing such things regularly their body also becomes impervious to such things. And that might be the reason why these people are spared.

But let me clear one thing, whatever I have said above is not full proof. I mean it is not guaranteed that slum dwellers won’t catch Swine Flu ever. They can also catch the disease but surely in a lower percentage.

My main point of writing all this here is, “Don’t panic to this swine flu, take due care and you will be spared. Adding to this, I will also tell that do Yoga, Pranayam and keep yourself fit. Increase your immunity by any means and may God keep you away from this pandemic.”
